have been canceled and we are talking chicago alone. jeremy hubbard has more. >> reporter: the roads are impassable, the sidewalks invisible and the airports impossible. >> i want to go home to los angeles. >> reporter: katherine is stuck at o'hare where the lines are clogged and the departure boards has cancellation mounting. today alone, 1200 flights canceled at chicago o'hare. 250 at midway. 400 more over the weekend in minneapolis. and the ripples are felt across the country. two hour airport delays in atlanta. boston, newark and new york. the blizzard stranded more than 4 hundred travelers in north dakota overnight. they were trying to get to minneapolis but couldn't. >> it was crazy. completely packed like sardines. >> reporter: on the highways it's not better. blizzards snarling traffic in iowa, wisconsin, and it's not just snow but rain, too along the east coast in new york city, where there's reprieve after some areas nearby were drenched

in 2 to 4 inches of rain. and then there's the fog. flights at reagan airport grounded for hours. for travelers, no relief in sight. next to the snow indianapolis, pittsburgh and cleveland stretching i-90 near buffalo where hundreds of travelers were stranded 10 days ago is about to get snowed on again. and in syracuse where they got 46 inches of snow in just the last week, another 1 to 2 feet is in the forecast. but back in chicago, there is a bit of good news. >> i am going home. >> reporter: after hours on the phone she got booked on a flight. if it can get off the ground. jeremy hubbard, abc news, new york. 6:32 right now. in news around the nation a. virginia girl who was missing for a week is waiting to be reunited with her family. she is in san francisco right now talking to investigators. she was found on friday with her

more's boyfriend. a 32-year-old named jeffrey easley. police say he and 12-year-old brittany smith disappeared from virginia a week ago. the girl's mother was found dead in the home. police say in california, they are working with investigators in virginia on this case. officials say someone recognized easley and smith while they were at a safeway store on friday. you probably read the newspaper in print or online burks would you subscribe to a newspaper if it was only on the ipad? media mogul rupert murdock is launching a digital newspaper called the daley costing an ipad user a few bucks a month. eye comes amid another lousy year for the newspaper industry. murdock can afford the experiment because if he fails, he loses something that is considered modest. if he succeeds it's rare piece of good news for the print industry snow.

the table. include bake sales are fair game. today the president will sign into a law the healthy hunger free kid act. >> in this new law, it's going to expand the school lunch program and it will set new standard for the quality of school meals. we have the details. >> reporter: this is how we itcally think of school lunch. mystery meat, cookies, all the fattening goodies you can think of. but tomorrow when the president signs a new law raising standards, school lunches will change. sugar and fats will make way for fruits and vegetables. not everyone is happy with the changes. >> even though a third of american kids are obese or overweight, the new standard have a a lot of critics who argue this is the nanny state run amuck. >> who should be make the decisions when you eat in schools choice and everything. should it be government or the parents? it should be the parents. >> reporter: yes. >> yes. usda will be the doughnut czar in american schools. >> reporter: experts say it's

time to change the menu. existing standards on snacks are 40 years old. for instance, popsicles are considered junk food. a dove bar is not. seltzer water is banned but not sugar water juice drinks. jelly beans no skitels yes. nutrition experts say the change is long overdue. >> we have to bring the nutrition standards into the 21st century and address calories and fat and salt and the other big problems in kids diets today. >> reporter: rebecca, a high schoolteacher in arizona worries the rules will end her bake sales. >> i just we don't think the government should have any say as far as what we can and can't eat. >> reporter: agriculture secretary promises the new law won't ban bake sales it will just limit them. we might agree kids need to be healthier, we can't agree on how to do it. even politics can seep into school lunches and bake sales. abc news washington.

vehicle block one tube and we have downed poles and wires blocking the intersection at route 80 and penn shop road in green valley. now back to you. >> thanks. they were a tight family that lit lived in tight quarters. they came to the united states for a better life. this morning a. pikesville family is making arrangements for two funerals after a carbon monoxide leak. jeff hager is live this morning with an update on the victims who were taken to the hospital. jeff. >> reporter: well, megan, tragically, it appears the home had no carbon monoxide detector, and now two men are dead. a 911 call before nine in the morning sunday brought rescue personnel to the 4100 block of colby road. two construction workers living with the family was sleeping in the basement. help would come too late to save them. >> they couldn't even speak. they was crying every moment as we was telling them. >> reporter: medics transported 11 other people, those living in the house, and some rescue

personnel to area hospitals. they have been treated and released. reporting live in pikesville, jeff hager, abc2 news. today, the man accused of plotting to bomb a military recruitment center will be in court this afternoon. the hearing for antono martinez was questioned by his pub -- did requested by his public defender. he is behind bars this morning without bail. he is charged with an attempted murder plot and possession of a weapon of mass destruction. police say he tried to activate what he thought was a bomb at the around force recruiting center in catonsville e didn't note bomb given to him by an undercover agent was a phoney. six pit -- sick pit bulls including a puppy has been taken from a home during a drug raid. they are being cared for this morning. workers satan malcontrol found the dogs during a raid on edgemont avenue. they say despite all the dogs

appear to have been through, they are very sweet. >> they came in from edgemont avenue with severe scarring on them, open wounds, and in very skinny condition. the material found at the property make it appear they were fighting and training them to fight. >> once the investigation is over, the dogs will be put up for adoption. animal cruelty charges have not been filed but baltimore city police and animal control are still investigating. four people were busted during the raid and charged with possession of narcotics and intent to distribute. police arrested fuller and alfriend dorsey and they are also behind bars this morning. more than 100 dogs are safe after being caught in a house fire. firefighters say they rescued 129 dogs in huntington outside washington. it took crews a few minutes to get the fire under control but four dogs died from the flames. neighbors say the homeowners were dog breeders.

officials say there were more than 600 animals on the property. new reaction after a fire killed a family of four including two children in cecil county. it happened early saturday at indian acres in earlville. the fire turned this makeshift trailer into ashes it. happened on a wooded area where the wood structures are built on top of trailers. people who showed up say they wanted to help with the wood frame but it -- before it caught fire trapping two adults and two children inside. family members reflecked on the closeness of the group. >> actually, i am a police myself, and she always talked about being my partner when she got older. >> when we all got together, it was our kids, their kids and we were just a big family outing when we did have family outings. it was wonderful. >> nabs say there was not enough watter to fight the fire because the canton ground shut down the supply in november leaving those who choose to stay year-round using tanks and very little pressure. a 5th person made it out

market closeded on friday at a two- year high and there's a big tax break battle in washington today. president obama wants to keep the current tax rates for all taxpayers in exchange for an extended unemployment benefits package and one-year payroll tax break. this is the deal that he reached with republicans. some democrats, though, are struggling with the estate tax law. you would be able to pass on 5 million dollars in assets, tax free, anything over that would be taxed at 35%. house democrats say that's too generous. >> we are not going to hold this thing up at the end of the day, but we think that simple question should be put to the test. >> today, senate is expected to pass the deal. white house says the tax cuts won't pass the house if democrats seek major changes. michael steele of prince george's county, the chairman of the national republican party burks is he going to keep the job? he will let us know tonight if he interested in running the

get icy especially to the west as we look for temperatures this morning in low 30s and staying steady or dropping into the afternoon. temperatures will be cold. 35 in baltimore. wind chill 26, and falling temperatures throughout the day saw the high at midnight 37. and we go to 19 overnight. 29 flurries and snow showers tomorrow. 31 wednesday and big storm could form on the coast by sunday night. kim. justin, we are looking live at an accident southbound 95 right there between 695 and 195 in baltimore county. the southbound lanes are beginning to slow quite a bit past the creep of the crash that is blocking the right lane. so expect some delays of a few minutes if this is the way you take. it clears up past scene of the accident. aside from that, we are looking really good. not a lot of accidents. just some building volume around the area. we have reports of some debris on the roadway on the inner loop at reisterstown road. >> now back to you. before we go, if you see snow anything you want to take
